Cloves have a strong, pungent and sweet flavor and they come from the rich, brown, dried, unopened flower buds of an evergreen tree in the myrtle family.

Cloves are used in spice cookies and cakes, and can also be added to meats, cole slaw, sauerkraut, macaroni salad and breads.
